F.A. Premier League | Transfer Rumours

Blast radio sports editor Jack Davis looks ahead to a busy transfer window and a tough 2010/11 season for all in the Barclays’s Premier League.

Another Premier League season comes to an end, and all the questions asked at the beginning of the season have all been answered. Could Manchester City live up to their boasting? and would their rivals cope without Ronaldo and Tevez? Who would succeed at the top and perish at the bottom?

The anticipation of next season is already growing in me, last season we saw teams like Tottenham prove they can sit at the table with the now ‘big 3’. Alex McLeish’s Birmingham has surprised us all by grinding out a 15 game unbeaten run. All teams in the Premier League need to spend in the summer to keep competing at the level they are at now, never mind improving on the 2009/10 season.

Manchester City, despite missing out on fourth place will surely recruit, with money not being an object, they are one team (if they stick with Mancini) that surely can only improve. Spurs have a real chance to knock on the door of Ancelotti and Sir Alex’s men, if they bring in some experienced heads into their team and hang on to the talent they have already got. Arsenal, as they have had for many years have the base of a squad and the expert orchestrator in Arsene Wenger to really dominate the European elite. Three or four good signing’s in the summer and stopping the key players they have already got from leaving the emirates and I believe arsenal’s talking will finally turn into walking.

The teams below, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Everton are certainly not going to give up on their beliefs and capability’s. Martin O’ Neil and David Moyes has always made wise signings with little money. If given a bit more financial backing from their owners I can see the top 8 places becoming a scramble all over again.

What about the top two? Chelsea and Manchester United seem that extra step away from every other team in the League at the moment, but both want so much to dominate this new decade that spending seems the only way to sit at the top of the pile and fend off their rival. With rumours of a clear out this summer at Old Trafford suggests that Sir Alex is looking to re-build. A partner for Rooney up front that can push him for the first name on the team sheet, a couple of squad signings that can freshen up the competition for places in the midfield and the defence. And Eventually United will need someone to take over from Dutch 39 year old Edwin van der Sar.

Chelsea would be taking a risk to stick with what they have got. The ’30 something club’ need more youngsters to push for places. Even though they stunned us with their display’s last season they did look shaky at times with world class names looking out of place in one of the top teams in Europe. Also with such huge success this season the pressure to bring back the European crown is only going to grow.

Last season was only a taster to what the Premier League could be like next season, the days of a runaway winner seems to be in the past. This summer’s transfer market will tell us more, but I can’t wait to kick off again in august for the 19th Premier League season.
